By A Divine Mission
Teeninga Palmen did not just come into existence. Our company was built on a vision that was revealed by God to our owner, Gjalt Jan Teeninga. In this revelation it was said that we would get a large share of the market and that this blessing should be used to save lives.
This divine mission is at the heart of our work. It defines how we run our business and inspires us to look beyond profit and success. Teeninga Palmen is more than a company; it is a movement striving for a better world.
2017
From Attic to Garden
Teeninga Palmen started out of a deep passion for tropical plants and trees. What once started as a small adventure, growing cuttings in an attic, quickly grew into something much bigger. The garden soon became the epicentre of the growing collection, where exotic plants in all shapes and sizes found their place.
What was once a small hobby has now grown into a small business.
2018
Moving to Hemmen
In 2018, we moved to our new location at Hemmen , where we opened a beautiful, busy garden center. Customers came not only for the plants, but for a true experience . The garden center was a place where people could enjoy nature, be inspired and discover everything that green has to offer. Thanks to its unique design and our focus on quality, the garden center became a popular destination for anyone looking for something special for their garden or interior.
2021
Our Move to the Kommisjewei: An Experience Garden Center with Social Impact
Teeninga Palmen has transformed its new location on the Kommisjewei into a special experience garden centre. This space offers customers the opportunity to experience green in all its forms, but also has a significant social impact . By working together with young people that we have been able to support, we have created a learning environment in which they can not only develop skills, but also actively contribute to the green world around them. The garden centre is more than a place for plants; it is a meeting point where green and people come together, with projects that both improve nature and have a positive impact on the community. With this step, we contribute to creating valuable opportunities for young people, while working together towards a more sustainable and stronger future for the region.
2023
Expansion of restaurant and beach pavilion
2023 was a year of growth and development for Teeninga Palmen, with the most important milestones being the construction of a restaurant and pavilion. These new additions were designed not only to offer our guests a tropical experience , but also to serve local dishes in a unique, green environment. It became a place where nature and hospitality come together, a space where visitors could not only enjoy the most beautiful plants, but also a culinary experience that reflects the local culture.
In addition, we took a significant step in our export growth in 2023, entering new markets and further expanding our global footprint. This year has laid the foundation for our further ambitions, and we are determined to continue along this path. The combination of green innovation and international expansion has enabled us to make a meaningful impact not only locally, but also globally.
2024
Teeninga Palmen: Explosive Growth and Social Impact in 2024 🌍🌿
2024 marks a year of explosive growth for Teeninga Palmen. We are now the largest garden centre in Smallingerland , with a delivery capacity of 387 hectares from Spain. Our export is growing worldwide and we have successfully realised large rental projects , from tropical gardens to thematic outdoor experiences.
In addition to indoor garden projects such as artificial walls with moss and artificial plants, we continue to innovate in large-scale outdoor planting . But our social impact is what really drives us. Thanks to partnerships with foundations, we can save many children and provide support to widows and orphans worldwide.
With the ambition to conquer 60% of the global market , we strive to make the world greener and better . 🌱✨

Joy Center, Uganda: Rescuing Children from the Streets
In Uganda we support Joy Center , a shelter for children who would otherwise have to live on the streets. These children, often orphaned or abandoned, have often had traumatic experiences and live under the most miserable conditions. Through the collaboration with Stichting De Geopende Deur (Come Alive).
